Some fun questions.... 1. How long have you been selling on ebay? or buying? 2. What did you start out selling? 3. What did you usually buy when you first discovered ebay? 4. Can you remember what the listing fees were back then? I was over on the sellers board looking at a thread where everyone was remembering the good ol' days selling. A couple months ago I was going through some very old checks and deposit slips of mine. I was laughing because on one deposit slip, I had about 12 checks I was depositing from different buyers! Back then everyone sent checks. Maybe a few money orders and sometimes I would get cash! I started selling in October of 2000, and the first thing I sold was a lot of figurines called Eddie Walker. They were cartoonish type figurines and I got them on clearance after the holidays. I paid maybe $15 total for all of them. Well, I was just freaking out because by the last day of the auction, the amount was up to $50. Then, I watched the last 5 minutes of the auction. I would refresh my screen and the last minute it went from $50, to $100... then $150... then $200!!!! Then $255!!!! I was jumping around the house screaming. LOL... I was hooked. I knew I was going to be a ebay addict forever. A couple weeks later, I was looking for scrapbooking supplies and came across a seller called cherryredspyder. She was getting like $25 for a title topper with punch people on it, and three little 2x2 squares with foof on them. I was like, NO WAY! Back then, she was THE BIG SELLER of all sellers. And punch people were THE hottest. LOL.... I think another popular seller was yankeesgal? She also sold paper piecings and was a big punch people girl. Then came along Wigglywourms. Her paper piecings got big amounts. Back then, it seemed like big amounts were $35-40, but no one really did actual 12x12 fully completed layouts. So, I emailed cherryredspyder and she was a sweetheart. She told me to go for it and gave me a few tips and I did. I loved it. Man, I burned out two scanners because there was no digital cameras back then. LOL... No paypal either and I can't remember when paypal even started. Funny huh.... I just wish sometimes, that we could all go back to those days. There wasn't nearly as much product. People didn't have a clue what the actual name of the product was... just that they liked the purple paper with the colored poka dots. LOL.... We cut out our titles by hand, and there wasn't a shred of ribbon on anything! (I can't believe that! There it was all along, staring us in the face, but why didn't we put ribbons on scrappy stuff until just the last 5 years?) Ok, sorry for such a long silly epic post! Share your memories of selling, or buying! I love to hear these stories!
