Our Own Worst Enemies

Is there anyone that can agree with me that we as scrapbookers can truly be our own worst enemies at times, or has the PMS Monster completely over-run my brain?? LOL With so much craziness the last while here on the forums within the topic of copying...I just have to shake my head sometimes when I see the wording on some listings. When I see a completely unique layout, not only am I in awe of the workmanship and talent, but I also secretly hope to see some sort of mention at the end of the auction pertaining to it being an original idea etc, and don't copy. But I must say that it makes me PMS-CRAZEEE to see a layout with a paper piecing matching a clip art at PC Crafter with a note saying something like: "I don't mind if you scraplift, but please do not use my designs for resale on ebay or anywhere else." What design??? The ribbons? The photomats?? Can't be the "design" of the layout..as its pretty basic..Surely not the paper piecing that came directly from PC Crafter?? When we get to the point where we are claiming work to be our own, that hundreds of women on these boards can recognize from a website.....*lost for words here**...what the hell are you thinking?? (And YES I have loads of PC Products and YES I use them!) So...Jane Doe uses this statement thinking it will somehow protect her layout from copying?? When in reality all that has been accomplished is to put the seed of doubt into the minds of other Ebayers that perhaps when Sally Doe comes along with a layout featuring the same paper piecing that she MUST BE COPYING JANE!!!! And *growl* *snort* the whole copying mess repeats itself. I truly believe we at times are our own worst enemies. If its truly your design, then copyright it til the cows come home and you'll have everyone's support and admiration for a job well done. But warn people against "copying your design" on a paper piecing that has been around the block here on Ebay at least 100 times...and not only do you create problems down the road for others who have also paid their money to download clip art, but you really kind of bring into question your creative talents. (And pul-leeze...I am well aware of PC's Trademark rules, so no need to re-hash that all over) I'm thinking maybe listers who are in the habit of "claiming clip art into Paper piecings" as their own, maybe haven't realized that this too will come back to bite us ALL in the a@@. *sigh* Ahhhh I feel much better.... Off to eat a whole honkin' bag of cheese doodles!! LOL Martha
