The truth about bismuth oxychlorides

Here at Smoky Mountain Minerals we do not use bismuth oxychloride in any of our products. Many tv brand and independent sellers here on okay use bismuth oxychloride in their mineral makeup.
We choose to never use it and here is why:
Bismuth is the by-product of lead and copper refining. Bismuth very rarely occurs in nature. It is very heavy and chemically resembles arsenic and antimoney. It has a very shiny property to it. It is considered a heavy metal.
Some mineral makeup formulators choose to use it because it is cheap to buy and makes a very inexpensive filler. It has some binding qualities which helps the makeup stick to your skin. And because of its molecular make-up, it appears shiny on your skin. However, since it is a very heavy element, it must be forced into the skin (which is why some gepanies tell you to "buff their makeup into the skin"). The heaviness of it can cause clogged pores and irritated skin. (I know this by experience. Starting my own mineral makeup business, of course I had to try one of the more well known names. I ended up with broken out skin that was red and very itchy!) This would probably be caused by its crystalline shape. And remember, it is chemically kin to arsenic! Your body will reject anything it does not like, therefore, itching and redness is the skin's way of rejecting the bismuth oxychloride.
So, if you have had problems with mineral makeup in the past, it was probably from the bismuth oxychloride.
That is why you will never have that problem with our minerals! We will never use anything that is toxic or unhealthy. We are looking for making this world a better place by keeping our customers healthy and beautiful.
Keeping you beautiful, naturally!
