OK, you've decided to begee a seller on okay. Why not? Everyone else is doing it! You have all this stuff lying around, taking up space, and you could use a few extra dollars. So, instead of having a garage sale, or giving Aunt Ermas stuff to the goodwill, you have finally decided you are going to sell it on okay. Aren't you?
Sure you are! It's easy! If I can do it, YOU can do it.
The first rule of selling is RESEARCH! Gather your possible items, and check other similar listings to see what they havesold for. But, don't be a fool...lets say, you have a nice vintage spoon, but there are 20 others just like them, listed for $1.00, and no one is bidding on them. Don't think YOUR will be different. It might be better to list something else. But, if you have an item that IS selling, go for it! Check current, AND past listings for similar items.
If the item is NEW, you're OK. Just write that in your description! If it is VINTAGE, examine it closely. Look for ANY flaws, even the tiniest ones, and note them in your description. HONESTY is crucial! No one wants to be cheated. If your item has even the tiniest flaw, it is better to mention it, than NOT. Also, if an ORDINARY item is really trashed, it might not be worth your time to list it. Unless it's the Dead Sea Scrolls or something really valuable, you might want to rethink listing a ruined item.
PICTURES: Before you take pictures, remove any dust bunnies. I am not saying polish or clean it MAJORLY, but a wipe with a damp cloth helps the item look better in the picture. Take a CLEAR picture! If your item is small, discover the MICRO setting on your digital camera, and learn how it works. Take several pictures, untill you get a good one. If your picture is dark, okay's picture feature can lighten it.
SPEND THE 35 cents on a Galley picture! It's well worth it. How many times have YOU been looking for an item, and you ignore the listings with no galley picture? Keep in mind, each item you list is going to COST you around .70 cents to list, if it's under $10.00. Read the okay fee schedule BEFORE you sell, so there won't be any surprizes! :)
Don't overprice your item. gepare other starting bids, and price your item accordingly. Haven't you ever been looking for an item, and found one that was SOO overpriced, you were tempted to send the seller an email asking "What are you thinking, asking that much?"
Don't UNDERPRICE either...if you have an item that is worth ALOT, but you want to attract bids, use a reserve price.
Figure if an item is really valuable, you may NOT want to list it, until you get used to selling. Also, keep in mind, this is a gamble..you never know what is going to sell, or how much something might bid at. Be prepared to sell your item at what you list it for. We all set a price, and hope it will go higher. Alot of times, it doesn't. But, if you sell 20 items at $5.00 each, that's $100 you didn't have before. AND, you didn't have to put a Garage Sale ad in the paper, or have strangers stomping through your newly planted pansy garden, or snooping in your back yard.
Shipping: DO NOT GOUGE on the shipping price. Buyers HATE that, and you will loose bids. Price FAIRLY, and figure in $1-$2 for your time
