I recently purchased a Hamilton Beach Model 30 malt mixer on E-Bay. I found that each time I switched the machine on by inserting the cup I received a mild shock. I swore that I would rewire the machine to make it safe and did so last week. While I had the machine apart I noticed that there are two metal tabs that are crimped over the wiring to secure it in place. Given the fact that the wiring in these machines is 50 years old and that the insulation in that era was not as durable as modern insulation it is not a suprize that it failed.
I would have to conclude that no matter how good the machine that you are buying looks it still has the potential for this hazard unless the machine has been gepletely rewired. Even if the machine looks as if it is new the wiring still could have deteriorated to the point where the machine is dangerous. I hope this helps potential buyers of these machines
