According to the US Postal Service there are things that are necessary
when shipping an item to Germany that is to be declared as a gift.A parcel may be addressed to a street
address or to a post office
box. A local telephone number for the addressee should be provided when
the item is addressed to a street address and must be provided when the
item is addressed to a post office box.
For Priority Mail International parcels, an
invoice, in duplicate,
is required for all gemercial shipments regardless of value and all
personal shipments valued at $300 or more. The invoices must be affixed
to the outside of the parcel or may be enclosed in PS Form 2976-E with
the customs declaration.
Mailpieces delivered through international bulk
mail services must
be addressed with the correct postcode number or delivery zone number,
if one exists. Without this number, the German postal administration
will return such pieces to the sender or the country of origin due to
insufficient addressing.
Import licenses or certificates are required for
meat and meat
products; pasta products; dairy products; egg and egg products; plant
and plant products; tobacco products; and cigarette paper. Senders
should ascertain before mailing whether the necessary documents are
held by the addressee.
The customs treatment of gift parcels will
be facilitated if the customs declaration is marked by the sender Private Geschenksendung (personal gift
package).
Customs authorities require invoices with books
valued at 26 euros or more (currently $35.20).
Germany will not accept any Express Mail
International or Priority Mail International insured item valued at
more than $500. Items valued at more than $500 will be returned to
sender. Now that you've read this Guide, won't you please vote YES as to its helpfulness? Thank you!
